Frequently asked questions

How do I write an amount on a cheque?

Write the dollars in words, then the cents as a fraction of 100: $1,234.56 becomes “One thousand two hundred thirty-four and 56/100 dollars”. Choose the cheque format to get exactly that.

Should I write “and” in numbers?

American usage reserves “and” for the decimal point (one hundred five dollars and fifty cents). British usage puts “and” after hundreds: one hundred and five. Both are correct; tick the option for British style.

How large a number can it handle?

Up to 30 digits before the decimal point — in English that goes up to nonillions.

Why are there Vietnamese options?

Invoices in Vietnam must show the total in words (bằng chữ). Choose Vietnamese to get readings like “Một triệu hai trăm năm mươi nghìn đồng”.
