Frequently asked questions
How do I add VAT to a price?
Multiply the net price by (1 + rate ÷ 100). At 20%, a net price of 100 becomes 120, of which 20 is VAT.
How do I remove VAT from a price?
Divide the gross price by (1 + rate ÷ 100). At 20%, a gross price of 120 becomes 100. Don’t just subtract 20% — that would give 96.
Which VAT rate should I use?
It depends on your country and on what you’re selling — many places have a standard rate plus reduced rates. Check with your tax authority; the rate field is editable for that reason.
Can I use this for GST or sales tax?
Yes, the arithmetic is the same. Just enter your GST or sales tax rate. Note that US sales tax is normally added on top of the listed price, so use “Add VAT”.
