Image to Text (OCR)

Extract text from images, screenshots and scanned documents with OCR. Supports English, Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and more — right in your browser.

Your image is processed in your browser and never uploaded. The OCR engine and language data are downloaded once from a public CDN and cached for next time.

How to use this tool

  1. 1Choose an image, drag it onto the box, or paste a screenshot with Ctrl+V (Cmd+V on Mac).
  2. 2Pick the language of the text in the image.
  3. 3Click Extract text. The first run downloads the OCR engine and language data, so it takes a little longer.
  4. 4Check the result, fix any mistakes directly in the box, then copy it or download it as a .txt file.

Features

  • Reads JPG, PNG, WebP, BMP and GIF images up to 15 MB.
  • English, Vietnamese (with full diacritics), Chinese, Japanese, Korean, French, German and Spanish — plus a combined Vietnamese + English mode for mixed text.
  • Paste screenshots straight from the clipboard.
  • Editable result with Copy and Download .txt.
  • Language data is cached after the first use, so later scans start faster.

Privacy

Text recognition runs in your browser with Tesseract OCR. Your image is never uploaded — only the OCR engine and language files are downloaded from a public CDN.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is the OCR?

Very accurate for clear, printed text such as screenshots, documents and signs. Accuracy drops on handwriting, blurry or angled photos, low-contrast text and decorative fonts.

How can I get better results?

Use a sharp, well-lit image with the text straight and reasonably large. Crop away everything except the text, and choose the correct language before extracting.

Can it read handwriting?

Only neat block handwriting, and not reliably. The engine is trained on printed text.

Can I extract text from a PDF?

Convert the page to an image first with the PDF to JPG tool, then open that image here. If the PDF already contains selectable text, simply copy it instead.

Why is the first scan slow?

The OCR engine (about 3 MB) and the language data (2–15 MB per language) are downloaded the first time. They are cached in your browser, so later scans start almost immediately.
