Frequently asked questions
How is this different from the Image Compressor?
The Image Compressor uses one quality setting you choose. This tool works backwards from a size limit and finds the best quality that fits it — what online application forms need.
Why did my image get smaller in pixels?
When even a low quality setting is too big, scaling the image down keeps it much sharper than compressing it harder. The new dimensions are shown with the result.
Does 1 KB mean 1,000 or 1,024 bytes?
1,024 bytes, like Windows and most upload forms. If a site counts 1,000 bytes per KB, set a target a few KB lower.
Can I compress HEIC photos?
Convert them with HEIC to JPG first, then compress the JPG here.
