Where a 20 KB limit is used
A 20 KB limit is common for signatures and small ID photos on government, exam and university application portals — for example signature uploads that must be 10–20 KB.
What to expect
20 KB is very small. A photo usually ends up around 300–500 pixels wide; a signature on white paper stays crisp at a larger size because it has so little detail. Crop tightly first so every pixel is used for what matters.
How to use this tool
- 1Choose a JPG, PNG or WebP image.
- 2The limit is already set to 20 KB — change it if your form says otherwise.
- 3Click Compress and download the file, which is guaranteed to be under 20 KB.
Features
- Finds the highest quality that still fits the limit.
- Scales the image down only when quality alone is not enough.
- Fixes phone photo rotation and removes hidden metadata.
- JPG or WebP output.
Privacy
Your image is compressed entirely in your browser and never uploaded — safe for ID photos and documents.
Frequently asked questions
How do I get a signature under 20 KB?
Photograph it on plain white paper in good light, crop it tightly with the Image Cropper, then compress here. Signatures compress very well.
The form also needs a minimum size — what now?
Some forms require 10–20 KB. If the result is too small, set a slightly larger target or use larger dimensions.
Why does the form say my file is still too big?
Some sites count 1 KB as 1,000 bytes instead of 1,024. If that happens, set a target a few KB lower.
