Frequently asked questions
Hyphens or underscores?
Hyphens. Google treats a hyphen as a word separator, while words joined by underscores may be read as one word.
How long should a URL slug be?
Short and descriptive — usually 3 to 6 words, under about 60 characters. Keep the main keyword and drop filler words.
Should I change slugs of pages that are already published?
Only with a 301 redirect from the old URL, or you lose existing links and rankings.
