Frequently asked questions
How long should a meta title be?
Google cuts titles by pixel width, not character count — roughly 580–600 pixels on desktop, which is often about 50–60 characters. This tool measures the width for you.
How long should a meta description be?
Aim for roughly 120–155 characters. Longer descriptions are usually cut off, though Google may show more or less depending on the search.
Will Google always show my title and description?
No. Google often rewrites titles and picks its own snippet if it thinks another one fits the search better. A good title and description still make that less likely.
Is this preview exact?
It’s an estimate. Google doesn’t publish exact limits and they change over time, so use the preview as a guide.
