Frequently asked questions
Is this character counter free?
Yes. You can count unlimited text for free, with no sign-up required.
What counts as a character?
Every character counts, including spaces and punctuation. A separate count without spaces is also shown.
What is the "bytes" count for?
Some limits (like certain database columns) are measured in UTF-8 bytes rather than characters — accented letters and emoji can take more than one byte each.
Is my text sent to a server?
No. Counting happens locally in your browser as you type.
