How to Rotate a PDF Page and Save It Permanently

By Admin Editor · September 22, 2026

You scan a contract and page 3 comes out sideways. Or a colleague sends a PDF where every page is upside down. Most PDF viewers let you rotate the view — but as soon as you close it, the pages snap back. To fix the file itself, you need to rotate and save.

View rotation vs permanent rotation

  • View rotation only changes how the page looks on your screen right now. It isn't stored in the file, so the next person who opens it sees the original orientation.
  • Permanent rotation changes the page's rotation setting inside the PDF, so it opens correctly for everyone.

How to rotate a PDF

  1. Open the Rotate PDF tool and choose your PDF.
  2. Pick the rotation: 90° clockwise, 180° (upside down) or 90° counter-clockwise.
  3. Choose All pages, or Only some pages and enter which ones, such as 3 or 2, 4-6.
  4. Click Rotate PDF, then download the result.

The file is edited in your browser and never uploaded, so confidential documents stay on your device. Files up to 50 MB are supported.

Does rotating reduce quality?

No. Pages aren't re-rendered or re-compressed — only the page's rotation setting changes. Text stays sharp and searchable, and images stay exactly as they were.

Page selection syntax

You can combine single pages and ranges:

  • 3 — just page 3
  • 2, 4-6 — page 2 and pages 4 to 6
  • 8- — page 8 to the end

Which way should I rotate?

  • Text is on its side reading upwards: rotate 90° clockwise.
  • Text is on its side reading downwards: rotate 90° counter-clockwise (270° clockwise).
  • Text is upside down: rotate 180°.

Rotations stack on any rotation the page already has, so you can rotate again if the first attempt isn't right.

Troubleshooting

  • Password-protected PDF: remove the password in a PDF reader first, then rotate.
  • Only some pages are wrong: use "Only some pages" so the good ones aren't rotated too.
  • Corrupted file: if the tool can't read it, try re-saving the PDF from the program that created it.

FAQ

Can I rotate just one page? Yes. Choose "Only some pages" and enter the page number.

Will the rotation show on every device? Yes — it's saved in the file itself.
