Holiday Baking Conversions: Cups to ML, °F to °C and More

By Admin Editor · October 13, 2026

Grandma's cookie recipe uses cups and Fahrenheit; your oven is in Celsius and your scale weighs grams. Holiday baking is when recipes cross borders most — and when a wrong conversion ruins a whole tray. Here's what you need.

Oven temperatures

°F °C Fan oven °C
325°F 163°C about 145°C
350°F 177°C about 160°C
375°F 191°C about 170°C
400°F 204°C about 185°C
425°F 218°C about 200°C

Recipes usually round to the nearest 5 or 10 degrees (350°F → 180°C). For a fan or convection oven, reduce by about 20°C. Convert any temperature with Fahrenheit to Celsius.

Cups to milliliters

A US cup is 236.6 ml. Some countries (Australia, Canada, the UK in newer recipes) use a 250 ml metric cup — the difference is small for one cup but adds up in a big batch.

  • ¼ cup = 59 ml
  • ⅓ cup = 79 ml
  • ½ cup = 118 ml
  • 1 cup = 237 ml

Use Cups to ML for exact amounts, and the Unit Converter for tablespoons and teaspoons (1 tbsp = 3 tsp = 14.8 ml).

Dry ingredients: weigh them

Cups measure volume, and a cup of flour can weigh anywhere from 110 to 150 g depending on how it's scooped. Typical weights:

  • Flour (all-purpose): about 120–125 g per cup
  • Granulated sugar: about 200 g per cup
  • Brown sugar (packed): about 220 g per cup
  • Butter: 1 US stick = ½ cup = 113 g (4 oz)

If you have a kitchen scale, weigh — it's the single biggest improvement to baking results. Convert recipe weights with Ounces to Grams or Grams to Ounces.

Scaling a recipe up or down

Doubling for a party? Multiply every ingredient by 2, but don't double the baking time — check early. For a 1.5× batch, the Percentage Calculator helps with awkward amounts (150% of 175 g = 262.5 g).
