A screenshot saved as PNG can easily be several megabytes — too big for an email, a form with an upload limit, or a fast-loading web page. Converting it to JPG is often the quickest way to make it dramatically smaller.

Why is a PNG so much bigger than a JPG?
PNG is a lossless format: it keeps every pixel exactly as it was, which is perfect for sharp graphics, text and logos. JPG is lossy: it discards detail the human eye barely notices, which is why it produces much smaller files for photographs and other images with lots of colour variation.
That's the trade-off in one line — PNG for precision, JPG for size.
When to convert PNG to JPG
- Photos and screenshots you want to email or upload somewhere with a size limit.
- Web pages where smaller images load faster.
- Anywhere JPG is required. Some forms and services accept JPG only.
When to keep it as PNG
- Images with transparent backgrounds, like logos and icons.
- Graphics with sharp text or flat colour, where JPG can leave fuzzy edges around letters.
- Files you'll edit again. Every time a JPG is re-saved it loses a little more quality.
How to convert PNG to JPG
- Open the PNG to JPG Converter.
- Choose your PNG image (up to 15 MB).
- Click Convert to JPG.
- Download the JPG when it's ready.
It's free, has no watermark and needs no account. Your image is processed in memory and never stored.

What happens to transparency?
JPG doesn't support transparency, so any transparent areas in your PNG are filled with a white background. If your logo has a transparent background and will sit on a coloured page, keep the PNG instead — or convert only the version you need on a white background.
Make it even smaller
If the JPG is still too large, you have two more options:
- Run it through the Image Compressor to reduce the file size further.
- Use the Image Resizer to reduce the dimensions. A 4000-pixel-wide screenshot is far bigger than most screens will ever show.
Going the other direction
Need to convert a JPG into a PNG? Use the JPG to PNG Converter. Keep in mind it only changes the file format — it can't restore detail a JPG already lost, or add transparency. For a full comparison of the two formats, see JPG vs. PNG: Which Format Should You Use?
FAQ
Will converting PNG to JPG reduce the quality? Slightly, because JPG is lossy. For photos and screenshots the difference is usually hard to see, but it's more noticeable on sharp text and thin lines.
Can I convert JPG back to PNG and get the quality back? No. Once detail is discarded in a JPG it can't be recovered — converting back only changes the format.
Is there a size limit? Files can be up to 15 MB each.
Is it safe to upload my images? Your image is converted in memory and returned in the same request. It's never written to disk or kept afterwards.
