You save an image from a website and it turns out to be a .webp file. Your editor won't open it, or the form you're filling in says "PNG or JPG only". Converting it to PNG solves the problem.

Why WebP causes problems
WebP is designed for the web, and every current browser shows it. But software outside the browser is slower to adopt it: older photo editors, some design tools, print shops, document software and many upload forms still expect PNG or JPG.
Why PNG is a safe target
PNG is understood almost everywhere. It's lossless, so it doesn't add further compression artefacts, and it supports transparency — which matters if your WebP has a see-through background, such as a logo.
How to convert WebP to PNG
- Open the WebP to PNG Converter.
- Choose your WebP image (up to 15 MB).
- Click Convert to PNG.
- Download the PNG.
It's free, needs no account and adds no watermark. The image is processed in memory and never stored.
What to expect
- The file will probably get bigger. PNG is less efficient than WebP for photos, so expect a larger file.
- Quality isn't magically restored. If the WebP was compressed with loss, converting to PNG preserves what's there but can't bring back detail that was already discarded.
- Transparency is kept.
- Animation: an animated WebP becomes a single still image, because standard PNG doesn't animate.

PNG or JPG?
- Choose PNG for logos, screenshots, graphics with text, and anything with transparency.
- Choose JPG for photographs where a smaller file matters more and transparency isn't needed — use the WebP to JPG Converter. Our guide How to Convert WebP to JPG covers that path.

FAQ
Is WebP to PNG conversion free? Yes, with no sign-up and no limit on the number of images.
Does converting reduce the quality? PNG is lossless, so the conversion itself doesn't add loss, but the image can only be as good as the WebP you started with.
Why is my PNG so much bigger? PNG stores images less efficiently than WebP, particularly photographs.
