Vietnamese Auspicious Day Finder

Find auspicious days for a wedding, groundbreaking, moving house, a business opening or a trip, matched to your lunar birth year — using traditional Vietnamese almanac rules.

Bride

Only the lunar year matters for this method — the day and month of birth don’t change the result.

Groom (optional)

Only the lunar year matters for this method — the day and month of birth don’t change the result.

Enter the birth year above to see which days suit it.

Based on Vietnamese folk almanac rules (Hoàng đạo, 12 Trực, 28 mansions, birth-year clashes, Kim Lâu, Hoang Ốc, Tam Tai). Schools differ, so other almanacs may disagree on some days. This is tradition, not science — use it as a reference only. Calculated in your browser; nothing is sent to a server.

How to use this tool

  1. 1Choose what you are planning: a wedding, groundbreaking, moving in, a business opening or a trip.
  2. 2Enter the lunar birth year — or a Gregorian date of birth, which is converted for you. For a wedding, enter the bride’s and optionally the groom’s.
  3. 3Pick where to start and how far ahead to search. The good days appear instantly, each with the reasons and the good hours for that birth year.

Features

  • Checks each day the way Vietnamese almanacs do: Hoàng đạo / Hắc đạo deity, the 12 Trực, the 28 lunar mansions and the commonly avoided days (Tam Nương, Nguyệt Kỵ, Dương Công Kỵ, Sát Chủ, Thọ Tử, Vãng Vong).
  • Matches days to the birth year: days that clash with it (xung tuổi) are ruled out, Lục Hợp / Tam Hợp days and a nourishing nạp âm element count in their favour.
  • Year checks by traditional age: Kim Lâu for weddings; Kim Lâu, Hoang Ốc and Tam Tai for building; Tam Tai for moving in and openings.
  • Lists the auspicious hours of each day, leaving out any that clash with the birth year.
  • Every rating shows its reasons, so you can see exactly why a day is good or bad.

Frequently asked questions

Why does only the lunar birth year matter?

Traditional day selection compares the day with the Can Chi of your birth year (for example Canh Ngọ for 1990) and with your traditional age. The day and month of birth are used for full horoscopes, not for picking a date. If you were born in January or early February, enter your Gregorian date of birth so the tool can tell whether you were born before Tết.

What do Kim Lâu, Hoang Ốc and Tam Tai mean?

They are years considered unlucky for big undertakings. Kim Lâu: the traditional age (tuổi mụ) divided by 9 leaves 1, 3, 6 or 8. Hoang Ốc: the age falls on a bad one of six “palaces” for building. Tam Tai: three unlucky years in a row for each group of birth years. Families often get around them by “borrowing the age” (mượn tuổi) of a relative.

What is a day that clashes with my birth year?

A day whose earthly branch is opposite your birth year’s — Tý and Ngọ, Sửu and Mùi, Dần and Thân, Mão and Dậu, Thìn and Tuất, Tỵ and Hợi. Such days are avoided for important events, even if they are otherwise good.

Why does another almanac give a different answer?

Vietnamese day selection has several schools, and almanacs weigh the stars differently. This tool follows the most common rules and shows its reasons for every day, so you can compare. It is tradition, not science — treat it as a reference.
